As a Qualified Beauty Therapist and Environmental Scientist, I have always been passionate in discovering new innovative, and earth-friendly ways to take care of mine and my family's skin.
I've been making personal skincare for over 25 yrs. I started with moisturiser in 1998, and then developed a fascination with cold-process soap in 2008, it has been a crazy fun adventure, and I have learnt more about skin and how it really reacts to various products than I did in my skin biology classes at college. Since skin theory and real skin on various individuals differ significantly, it is crucial to acknowledge this disparity. Yes it's the same basic fundamentals, but it doesn't always respond the same way.
As a passionate environmental scientist, I have always been conscious of the greenwashing that the beauty industry throws down our throats. As much as we would like to think that recycling is "saving us", the amount of recyclables that actually get recycled is a lot lower than the recyclables that are thrown into landfill because of contamination.
As Australians throw out 3.5 million tones of plastic (not including glass, tin, etc) each year, but currently only around 10 percent of it is recycled, I thought I'd try and give people an alternative to buying high-quality luxe natural skincare that doesn't cost the earth.
The problem that needed solving....
In 2014 my first born started getting really reactive skin to foods she ate, and things that touch her skin.
Drs advised to use steroid creams, but I wasn't going to let that happen to my baby's delicate skin. I was told by friends to try many "natural" products that were "sensitive skin" safe, etc, but I could see the ingredients in all of these products weren't effective, and many of them caused more harm than good.
And so began the journey of Beautifully Authentic. My mission was to develop unique products that effectively soothe, calm, nourish, and protect sensitive and reactive skin, which required thorough research into powerful plant rich ingredients, and how skin really responded to each individually or mixed with other ingredients.
Once I'd nailed my formulation, and managed to clear up my daughters skin, and my friends too, I developed a selection of products that would benefit everyone without all of the BS and waste. It turned out that friends loved it and shared it with their friends, and then Beautifully Authentic became a skincare brand.
Skinfood With A Conscience
- We are proud to say that all of the packaging, postage materials and the products are all Plastic Free - even our accessories promote a plastic free lifestyle.
- All of the ingredients are plant or minerals, and all tested on humans. No animals were involved at any stage.
- All of the ingredients are natural from the earth and not synthetic, and over 90% is certified organic. The aloe vera is homegrown and harvested with intention by Nicola.
- All products are palm and coconut free, for health and environmental reasons. We also ensure each ingredient is ethically produced and sustainable.
- Each and every product is handmade in small batches in South Australia. We also procure all of the ingredients from local or national Australian suppliers.
- Every ingredient has been mindfully chosen to nourish, soothe, calm and enrich skin to encourage healthy skin growth and repair.
Beautifully Authentic is here because of sensitive skin, though everyone can enjoy it every day.
Award Winning
In 2022 the Queen Concentrated Moisturising Lotion Bar was formulated, and spontaneously it was entered into the the Organic Beauty Awards.
We were completely taken aback when we found out that it had not only won an Award for Best Deep Hydration Cream, but also won an Award for Best Clean Palm Oil Free Body Care with a key attribute of being Perfectly Balanced.
In 2023 we entered the Deluxe and Opulent Concentrated Moisturising Lotion Bars into the Clean and Conscious Awards. The Deluxe came out with a Silver award in Zero Waste Body Care, and the Opulent was a finalist in the Zero Waste Beauty category. We are immensely proud being up against much larger more established brands, and being recognised as a contender.
Packaging
We have chosen our packaging to be minimalist and have the least impact on the planet that packaging can possibly have.
ALL of our packaging is compostable.
From our mailers to our boxes to our labels; You won't find one bit of plastic anywhere.
Want to feed your soil? Just tear up the boxes into small pieces and put them in your compost.
Palm & Coconut Free
We have chosen to avoid coconut and palm oil and derivatives because of we believe that they have a devasting impact on natural habitats, ecosystems and local communities when commercial grown and farmed, especially palm oil.
Coconut oil is also not great for the skin, as it sits on top and doesn't allow the skins natural defense system to work naturally and efficiently, which can create more skin sensitivities. It is also very effective as a dish soap in cold process soap, and can therefore contribute to drying the skin.
